WINTER JOURNAL - NOVEMBER 2007

Dear Friends,

Many of you have been wondering why you haven’t heard from us in so long. The last time we wrote in March of this year, we announced recording had begun on our new CD. We thank all of you who have been waiting patiently to hear the results.

THE NEW CD - "INSIDE I'M SINGING" WITH 11 SPECIAL GUESTS
Monday, November 26th marks an important date in the history of Secret Garden. Our 6th studio album “INSIDE I’M SINGING” is finally released. It’s been a challenging road but also a rewarding process to finally reach this point. The first demos were recorded in Dublin in November 2005. Two years and many demos later we’re very proud to present a very special Secret Garden album.

The idea of this album started off as a 10-year anniversary concept – we wanted to invite some of the many singers who’ve recorded our music and made vocal arrangements of our melodies. Instead of exporting our music to other projects we wanted to reverse the process by importing guest singers into our own world – have lyrics written to our own favorite melodies – arrange them in our own style and produce the invited artists in the way we wanted our stories to be told. We are so grateful to all the great artists who have given their heart and soul, and signed our music with their names.

The artists performing the songs of Secret Garden on this edition are - Barbra Streisand, Elaine Paige, Brian Kennedy, Niamh Kavanagh, Peter Corry, Tracey Campbell, Tommy Körberg, Peter Jöback, Anne Takle, Espen Grjotheim and Steinar Albrigtsen.

Some of our favorite songs form the foundation for this album: "Nocturne", "Song From A Secret Garden", "Passacaglia", "Hymn To "Hope", "Heartstrings" and "Ode To Simplicity". Most lyrics are written by Brendan Graham who transformed these melodies into words and stories – all with new titles and different arrangements. We wanted to go away from the original concept to challenge ourselves to tell the story from a new perspective but still keep the atmosphere of the original melodies. Brendan managed to melt into this process with great understanding of the Secret Garden concept and using the inspiration of Fionnuala’s storytelling violin – as a song without words. We’ve put away all the original arrangements and totally created a new platform for all the songs. By using the artists’ identity and personal way of performing something completely new has evolved from the roots of the original melodies.

During the pre-production period I have also composed some new material. Some of these melodies became a natural part of the selection of songs for this album: “Thank You”, “Theme from the Mermaid Chair” (written to the Kim Basinger film), “Song for a Stormy Night”, “Did I Not Love You”, “My Land” and “Sortie” are all new songs to continue the Secret Garden story...
